The comeback of a time-honoured brand: development of the HMI system and door control for the world premiere at the IAA 2017

The time-honoured brand Borgward breathes new life into its mid-range saloon Isabella at the IAA 2017 - and gives her a future-oriented design. In close cooperation with Borgward, AKKA has developed an HMI system and an innovative door control system.

Future-oriented HMI system

In the interior, the Isabella concept shines out with an innovative touch control system, offering the driver numerous interactive options through elaborate animations and graphics. A three-dimensional hologram in the tapered centre console provides a special wow effect. AKKA engineers have designed and realised the distinctive HMI system in close cooperation with the Borgward design team and implemented it precisely in time for the world premiere at the IAA 2017. For the IAA presentation, AKKA employees also ensured that all HMI system graphics and animations start synchronously. As a result, the HMI system even looks at first glance as if it were a single unit - leaving a lasting impression on both the public and the trade press.

Innovative door control

Another highlight of the Isabella concept is its innovative sliding doors that open in opposing direction, parallel to the vehicle. The Borgward design team completely dispensed with a B-pillar in the study. Thanks to the AKKA door control system, the opening of the innovative portal doors at the IAA World Premiere 2017 happens as if by magic when the driver moves his fingertip over the curved aluminium strip in the door area. To enable this coup, AKKA engineers mastered numerous technical challenges in exact detail. Everything happens in a matter of seconds: firstly, the front and rear doors of the Isabella concept are hinged on solid arms that are hidden in the vehicle floor. With the help of these arms, the portal doors are then extended by a few centimetres and pushed forwards and backwards in opposing directions. And suddenly, the view opened up to the revolutionary interior and operating concept. The camera flashlight storm begins. The Isabella show can start.
